Fishtank Fiasco + Sequel

November 28th, 2007

Yes, that right.

If anyone has heard me tell the tale of the Fishtank from Friday night, well, you hear it again, plus the sequel.

Friday night the fishtank had a leak. I go: “Gee, a leak, put towels on it.” Then it gets bigger, and suddenly, as soon as Brent gets home, the tank is leaking out 70 gallons of water within 2 hours. We saved all the fish, the plants and the scenery.

So, we take the fishtank out to Burnaby that same night, and viola! The guy says it’s common on bow-front tanks, and it’s easy to fix – a little sealant to the edging and it will be brand-as-new!

Woot~! So, our fish live in a 5 gallon bucket from Friday night until Tuesday morning. They are freaked out, they’ve all lost their colour, they are barely eating and they don’t know what to do. There’s 11 fish in a 5 gallon bucket — how crowded is that!

So, Brent gets the fishtank on Monday night, Brent puts the water in it to run on Tuesday morning, then that night Brent fills the sucker up and puts everything right again.

Wednesday, today, Cindy goes out for a smoke before doing some laundry. She sees something she doesn’t like, so she yells.

“Uh, Steph….we got a leak!”

“F*ck mother f*cker f*ck.” I think was the line of explicits that came out my mouth. I go to the fishtank. Instead of a small, slow leak it’s kinda trickling at a fast pace. The kind where you need to empty a bucket every 5-10 minutes. I panic. Cindy doesn’t.

We get towels, we get buckets. We get organized.

Scenery gets taken out, buckets get filled, plants are taken out, then Fish are put into their buckets {which is harder than you think, it took us a good 30 minutes to get all 11 fish into their buckets! @___@;;}

We syphon out as much water as we can, and as the water level drops, the water dumps itself out the back of the tank and all over the floor.

Then….

We clean up. Again.

I hate fish tanks. Brent is looking to get another one right now, something that is not Oceanic-Brand and not bowed-front.

I love my fish, but honestly, I don’t want another 70 gallon fish tank. Dear god no.
