Being an Artist, especially an Illustrator, or “Anime” artist, I get a lotta annoying questions. Not just annoying questions from people online, those are tolerable as it’s only expected that someone who doesn’t know you won’t know the answers to some questions. But others come from friends, or aquaintances, or family. And that’s more annoying…

Top 5 Reasons Artists get Annoyed with You:

5. Oh, are you an Artist?
Lets see…I’m drawing. I’m using a pencil/pen/felt/anything I have, I have a special notpad/sketchbook/book/lined paper/whatever I have, and I’ve been tuning out the world for the past 25 minutes. Why, yes. I am an artist.

4. How do you CG/colour/outline?
Hmmm, if I had enough time to answer this question, don’t you think I would have? Why am I going to take time out of my busy work/school/homework day and tell you how I computer colour, colour or outline my artwork? If I wanted to tell you how to do it, I would have made a million dollars by now because I could have published it and made you buy it!

3. Is it done yet?
I’m taking time out of my day/week/month/year/century to draw you something, and one/two weeks/months/years later you ask me if I’m done? Excuse me, if you wanted it sooner, maybe you should try learning to draw and draw it yourself!

2. Can you draw me/my character/my novel cover/my comic?
Suddenly, because I’m an artist, I don’t have a life other than to live by my art. I don’t have housework/animals/laundry/school/work/homework/knitting/other crafts/friends/a boyfriend. I just live for art, and because of that, I should spend all my free time drawing your stuff because you believe you have no talent and don’t want to push the envelope by trying to be your own artist. Yeeesh…

1. Can you teach me to draw?
Oh, this is a biggy. First, there can be two factors that will set an artist off even more: If you are a friend of the artist and asking, or you are a complete stranger and asking an artist.

First, if you are a friend of the artist: Granted, you are a friend, but also granted that you should know how busy the life of this Artist is. She has housework/animals/laundry/school/work/homework/knitting/other crafts/friends/a boyfriend and to top it off, she spent the last two hours complaining about said things, and after that is done you have the gall to ask her to teach you to draw? Not only that, but said Artist learned to draw by sheer will. She spent her time looking at other artists and mimicing their styles and the way they drew into her own form so that she could learn how to draw. She is a self-taught drawer. She spent hours, days, weeks, months, 15 years learning how to draw. And suddenly, you, who conciders yourself a “non artist” and yet wants to draw like the Artist, feels that the best way to do this is to get said Artist friend to teach you. That’s fantastic. Are you going to pay her for her time? Are you going to do her housework/laundry/look after animals/work/go to school/do her knitting/do her other crafts/mingle with her friends/look after her boyfriend for her? No? Then why are you asking? Learn how to draw on your own! She did it, she started learning when she was 7 years old. So maybe you should have started off earlier, and because you didn’t, you want to know how to draw like her in an hour. Well, tough luck sweetheart. She’ll draw you a quick tutorial because she can, but don’t expect her to be your personal tutor, telling you what you’re doing wrong. She learned it all on her own, you can too.

If you are a complete stranger, and asking for lessons: Obviously you don’t know about the many things this said artist has to do. But to top it off, you expect her to teach you how to draw? She doesn’t even KNOW you! And what would be the point?! Are you going to pay her and do her many chores for her? No. So don’t expecting anything than a link to a tutorial from said stranger artist. I have no personal obligation to not tell you to eff off and find a life. Said artist learned how to draw on her own, you should too. What makes you think that self-proclaimed and taught artist is going to baby you, a stranger, and teach you to draw? My goodness….

Can you tell that I was a little cheesed? ^__^;;; Oops!
